Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Nights of Shimmering Lights is ALMOST here! The buzz is up and people are getting excited to bring their families to this fantastic holiday event.

We love the questions and comments you have been sending to us, and we want to take the time to address one of the most common questions we’ve read in the past couple weeks: What should I expect at the Christmas Village?

We’re SO glad you asked!

Our Christmas village is designed to bring the essence of the holiday spirit to your family. Park the car and step into our life-sized Hallmark card. We advise that you head directly to meet Santa Claus and take a picture with the Jolly Man himself. Afterwards, step over to our mail station where you can write your Christmas letter and drop it in the mailbox to send to the North Pole!

Once you’ve visited St. Nick, head over to our Creative Corner full of different holiday crafts and activities for you to make and hang as decoration around your house! Getting those creative juices flowing might work up an appetite, but don’t worry! We have you covered at our donut and hot chocolate station! Oh yes, delicious donuts and creamy hot chocolate for you to take over to our movie screen and watch all of the traditional holiday movies of your childhood – like Frosty and Rudolph.

Once you’ve strolled through our Christmas village, you can change the view by riding through it on our Light Express choo–choo train! Let the sounds of our live choirs serenade you and you ride in style through our village.

So, let’s recap all of the things you can do in our Christmas village:

• Meet Santa Claus and take pictures

• Send your letters to the North Pole

• Creative Corner for holiday crafts and activities

• Hot Chocolate and Donuts

• Traditional holiday movies

• Live choirs singing Christmas carols

• Light Express choo – choo train

Trust us, this is one Christmas Village you don’t want to miss. Bring the family and take a stroll through your very own Winter Wonderland.

Halloween Candy

candy-corn-christmas-lights-tampaThe upcoming holidays have our sweet tooth searching for a delicious, home-made treat! We found a great candy corn crispy treat recipe from Martha Stewart that is sure to be fun for you and your kids.

Send us a picture of your creations! Or share them on our Facebook at www.facebook.com/NOSLTB

  • Cooking spray
  • 9 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 12 cups miniature marshmallows, divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine salt, divided
  • 9 cups crisp puffed-rice cereal, divided
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • Yellow and red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest

  1. Lightly coat a 5-by-9-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. In a large saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons unsalted butter over medium. Add 4 cups miniature marshmallows and 1/4 teaspoon fine salt; stir until melted. Stir in 3 cups crisp puffed-rice cereal and immediately transfer to pan. Coat an offset spatula with cooking spray and firmly press mixture into an even layer.

  2. Rinse saucepan. Repeat step 1 twice: To second batch, add orange zest and enough yellow and red food coloring to tint marshmallow mixture orange before adding cereal, then press into pan. To third batch, add lemon zest and enough yellow food coloring to tint marshmallow mixture yellow. Press third batch into pan.

  3. Let set 2 hours (or overnight). Run a small knife around edges of pan and invert loaf onto a cutting board. With a serrated knife, cut loaf into 10 slices. Cut each slice in half crosswise.

  4. Using your hands, gently mold each treat into a candy-corn shape.

Holiday Crafts

OK so we know that Nights of Shimmering Lights is really more of a Christmas/winter holiday event, but we have to be honest with you – we really love all of the holidays.

Since we know that you are pining away, anxiously waiting for NOSL to open, we thought we would share some holiday craft projects that can keep you and the kids busy while you wait.

We found this craft at artsymomma.com and we have to say – it’s pretty awesome! Print the haunted house template and paste it on a light colored sheet of construction paper so you can color in your pictures behind the windows and doors. The finished copy should look a little something like this, but with your own pizzazz!

When you are finished, show us a picture of your final design in our comments section below! We want to see what you created!
